Aboriginal Art Design Sought for King Edward Memorial Hospital

Wednesday, 21 March 2012

Key Dates:

13 April 2012 (applications close)

Venue: King Edward Memorial Hospital

Expressions of interest are sought for the development of an artwork by Indigenous female artists to foster a culturally secure environment for Indigenous women and their families within King Edward Memorial Hospital.

Community consultation with Indigenous women have identified themes of women's health through all ages, pregnancy, birth, baby and family. The art work should build on these themes while acknowledging the traditional custodians of the land, the Whadjuk people. The art work will also need to welcome Indigenous women from other areas of the State as well as engage all patients and visitors to King Edward in a celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.

Photographic presentations of the site and community consultations records can be viewed by interested artists to aid in the development of applications. Multiple artists will be selected to interpret the identified themes through paid participation in art workshops. It is anticipated, and preferred by the community consultation group, that the final art works will be installed in ceramics.
