This $50 000 Award goes to an artist who has made an outstanding contribution to the recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts.

The Red Ochre Award is an annual award that was etablished in 1993 to pay tribute to an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander artist who, throughout their lifetime, has made outstanding contributions to the recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts at both national and international levels. Nominations for this year close on 19 November, with decisions to be advised on 23 March 2013.
