Thursday, 27 March 2014

Key Dates:

Applications close: Monday 5th May 2014

In 2014 The Seed Fund turns 10 years old and continues to support emerging musicians, artists and arts workers via three grant categories.

1. MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP

WHO FOR: Australian emerging managers including self managed artists.

WHY: The Management Workshop is a one-stop shop for practical strategies to manage artists in the establishment phase of their career. In a creative industry where there is no set path, we believe the most effective way to learn is by sharing knowledge and seeking out those who have gone before. Providing access to an unrivalled list of industry experts from managers to publishers, lawyers, publicists, promoters and media representatives, the Management Workshop provides an opportunity for managers to come face to face with leaders in their field.

HOW: Applications will be accepted from managers, including self managed artists. The Seed will provide and arrange transport, accommodation and meals for all successful applicants. Should you be successful all you need to do is get yourself to your closest major airport!

2.  MONEY FOR MANAGERS

WHO FOR: Managers who have previously attended the Seed Management Workshop.

WHY: We are committed to the ongoing support of the Managers that have become part of our Seed Management Community through attending The Management Workshop. After their attendance at the workshop we believe managers are better equipped to roll out campaigns and strategies to deliver real results to their artists and for their own careers in the music industry.

HOW: To supplement emerging managers income potentially during a period of heavy workload and little commission (eg. Setting up for the release of an album or tour campaign). This grant is available across 2 scenarios:

  1. A Managers wage to be set at $500 per week as a supplementary amount to commission
  2. A Manager to pay an assistant (capped at $25 per hour). Payments must only be made towards wages (no travel or other costs to be covered)

3. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE SONG

WHO FOR: Australian Performing / Recording artists.

WHY: We believe that recording a high quality single in the current market is vital to the development of an artist's career.

HOW: Work with a producer to produce and deliver a finished song. The grant covers the producer's fee, one day's studio time plus overdubs, mixing and mastering. To apply, musicians submit an original song that they want produced and recorded. Producers who are committed to the project include; Steve SchramJohn Castle and Tony Buchen. In consultation with the producers, we will ensure the most compatible practitioner is selected for you. Successful grantees pay own travel, accommodation and other associated expenses if required.
