The Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA) is looking for a creative and motivated person to assist in the coordination of the ground breaking arts initiative Desert River Sea; Kimberley Art Then & Now. Based in Broome, this is a very exciting position involving travel to and research in Indigenous communities across the Kimberley region.

This position supports the delivery of this joint initiative between the Art Gallery of Western Australia and Rio Tinto (Future Fund).  It provides an exceptional opportunity to become involved in a new visual arts initiative Desert River Sea: Kimberley Then & Now, a five-year project encompassing research of Kimberley Indigenous artists and a commitment to building long-term relationships that will extend well beyond the duration of the project.

The successful candidate will be required to coordinate the Desert River Sea: Kimberley Art Then & Now regional office, and be responsible for the delivery of the project's remote regional outcomes. The focus will be on research and developmental work within Indigenous art-making communities across the Kimberley region of Western Australia.

This challenging and rewarding role requires someone with excellent consultative skills and a demonstrated ability to research and document artistic styles, practices and their cultural influences; previous experience working with Indigenous communities is considered essential.


  • This is a full-time, fixed-term position for a period of 2 years with the possibility of extension.
  • This role will involve working in remote regional locations.
  • This position is located in Broome, Western Australia.
