The Godinymayin Yijard Rivers Arts and Culture Centre, located in Katherine NT, is recruiting for the position of Visual Arts Curator.

Godinymayin Yijard Rivers Arts and Culture Centre (GYRACC) is a cross-cultural visual and performing arts venue in Katherine NT. It has been in operation since July 2012 and is a vibrant and culturally unique new presence in the local, Territory and national arts landscape.

The Centre, which has been in development for over ten years, aims to showcase the diversity and artistic richness of the region. The Centre is underpinned by a 'two way' learning philosophy and aspires to be a model for reconciliation in the community.

Based in Katherine, the curator will support the Director in the running of the gallery and exhibition program. Salary range: $50,000 - $55,000 for 4 days or 32 hours per week.

Key tasks include:

  • all aspects of curatorial practice, including installation and collection management;
  • planning and research of upcoming exhibitions;
  • planning and development of the visual arts annual program;
  • assisting with the delivery of the 2016 Woman of the World Katherine Festival, one of GYRACC's flagship events;
  • working with the marketing manager on social media and other promotional material;
  • assisting with the venue hire operation;
  • other duties assisting the Director.

The right person for this job will be a highly motivated, experienced early-career curator, with a flexible approach. This position presents the right applicant with an exciting opportunity to extend their curatorial practice and be part of a small team contributing to the growth of this significant new cross-cultural enterprise.
