Museum Victoria is seeking a motivated and experienced Collection Manager to undertake the daily management, documentation and facilitate access to the Australian Aboriginal Collection. This position is reserved for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants.

About the position

This position is responsible for the daily management of the Australian Aboriginal Collection, including registration, inventory control, access, storage, administration and maintenance of information systems.

Notable skills and experience

  • Extensive demonstrated experience in museum collection management practices, including the maintenance and use of databases; associated computer systems; and the application of procedures related to these electronic systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the legal and cultural issues relating to the management, access and use of Australian Aboriginal Collections and documentation, and the application of related procedures.
  • Sound knowledge and experience in safe object handling, storage and transport, incorporating OHS standards and risk management methods.
  • The successful applicant will have experience working in a multi-disciplinary team including collection managers, curators, conservators and other museum specialists.
