CALL FOR | The Churchie National Emerging Art Prize 2016

Tuesday, 19 April 2016

Key Dates:

Entries close: Monday 30 May 2016

The $15,000 non-acquisitive Churchie National Emerging Art Prize is dedicated to innovation and excellence across contemporary, traditional and new media genres.

QUT Art Museum and ‘the churchie’ Committee are calling
for entries to the Churchie National Emerging Art Prize 2016.
Firmly positioned as one of Australia’s ‘to watch’ art prizes, it
offers an inspiring glimpse into the future of the nation’s
contemporary art scene.

The relocation in 2016 of the prize to its new home at QUT
Art Museum will see it enter a new level of maturity, as it becomes
a platform for producing new and commissioned artwork. As well as
being able to submit individual works, artists may also submit
proposals for presenting a body of work.

Who can Enter?

To qualify, an entrant to ‘the churchie’ must:

  • Be 18 years of age or over.
  • Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident of
Australia.  An entrant may be required to provide the
Committee with proof of Australian citizenship or permanent
    residency status.
  • Be an emerging artist.

What is an Emerging Artist?

The churchie national emerging art prize Committee regards
artists who meet the following criteria to be ’emerging
artists’:

  • Has specialised training in his/her field, not
    necessarily gained in an institution.
  • Is at an early stage of pursuing a career as a
    professional artist.
  • Is deemed by the selection panel to be suitable for entry
in accordance with ‘the churchie’ purposes.

All mediums are welcome, including painting, works on
paper (drawing, editions, artist books), photography, new media and
sculpture.
