About the Role:
In this position you will be responsible for Martumili’s art production activities across multiple remote communities. Central to this role will be the supervision of the Martumili and Community Liaison Officers in delivering high quality services to Martu artists, customers, and key stakeholders. Establish sound administration processes and procedures to ensure effective systems are in place.Maintain effective and co-operative communication within the organisation.
Role Accountabilities
Workforce Development
- Oversee the recruitment and ongoing professional development of Martumili officers, including the delivery of a program of workshops.
- Identify and facilitate career pathways within the Martumili Department.
- Facilitate staff engagement in all areas of the Department, ensuring collaboration across projects & teams.
- Facilitate three 2-week community residencies per calendar year, based on the MMA field season and current resourcing requirements.
- Under direction of the Manager, liaise with external stakeholders to facilitate workforce engagement in collaborative community projects.
- Identify and coordinate opportunities for staff to obtain training or qualifications.
- In collaboration with the Manager, contribute to the design and delivery of a Martu-driven employment strategy, and youth engagement program.
Art Production
- Document artworks in the SAM database, including artists’ biographical information and relevant artwork information according to Martumili’s policy and procedures.
- Document related Martumili and arts/cultural activities, such as bush trips etc.
Exhibitions and Gallery
- Support the delivery of Martumili exhibitions and projects.
Human Resources
- Supervise Martumili Officers, Field Officers, Studio officers and volunteers, including recruitment and performance management.
- Support the delivery of staff meetings.
- Integrate Martumili Officers into Art Production and Gallery rosters.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with the Martu community, Martumili partners, relevant agencies and service providers.
- Maintain regular communication with the Manager on all operational and artistic matters.
- In liaison with the Studio and Logistics Officer, coordinate the delivery of the MMA Volunteer Program, including recruitment, induction, and supervision.
Administration
- Under the direction of the Manager, implement best-practice administrative procedures including correspondence, documentation, stock control, reporting and financial management.
- Complete monthly activity reporting as required.
- Liaise with MMA Finance Officer to ensure accurate financial records, timely artists’ payments and effective financial systems.
- Supervise the operational implementation of Martumili policies and procedures.
- Other duties as directed by the Manager, within the classification level and scope of the position.
Governance
- Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with artists, the Wangka Lampa Kujungka (WLK), staff, and stakeholders.
- Contribute to reports and acquittals for the WLK meetings, annual artist meeting, partners, grants and other reporting, as required.
- Support and practice good governance.
About You:
- Experience in the commercial arts sector and/or arts marketing.
- Understanding of copyright and intellectual property issues.
- Experience in photography and/or artwork documentation.
- Experience in remote area travel and the ability to travel in support of Martumili’s activities.
- Experience working with and reporting to Aboriginal people.
