Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week (part-time negotiable)

Term: 1 Feb 2025 – 31 Dec and renewable (3-month probational period applies)

Base Salary: $78,000 per year pro rata + allowances

About Us:

Yinjaa-Barni means ‘Staying Together’ in Yindjibarndi language. This collective of Aboriginal artists predominantly belong to the Yindjibarndi language group whose ancestral homelands surround the Fortescue River and Millstream Tablelands. Based in Roebourne, a small town in Western Australia’s Pilbara region of the north-west of the state, the Yinjaa-Barni artists create deeply personal works of collective memory, rendering the wildflowers, river systems and landforms of their country onto canvas. 

Yinjaa-Barni Art operates out of the heritage-listed Dalgety House on the banks of the Harding River in 2007. A peaceful space where artists paint together, Yinjaa-Barni is home to cross-generational talent. 

About the Role:

Yinjaa-Barni are looking for a Studio Coordinator in 2025! This role will help the art centre ensure the continued production of high quality artworks and the upkeep of art spaces, materials, and equipment. You’ll build a relationship with our artists and contribute to creative programming and support cultural activities. You’ll help with overseeing artwork documentation, as well as contributing to exhibitions, eCommerce, and digital marketing efforts.
Additionally, the role focuses on building relationships with Roebourne community and partners, supporting strategic planning, and contributing to governance tasks such as reporting and acquittals.

Art Production 

  • Coordinate the delivery of high-quality art services, training and professional development. 
  • Ensure the maintenance of art spaces, equipment, materials and facilities including the ordering, supply and distribution of art materials, including preparing canvases and mixing paint. 
  • Coordinate the transportation of materials to, and artwork from, Roebourne. 
  • In consultation with the Manager contribute to creative programming and quality control. 
  • Support relevant cultural/creative activities. 
  • Ensure artists’ copyright and intellectual property rights are adhered to. 

Documentation 

  • Ensure artwork documentation in the SAM database. 
  • Supervise and maintain processes around consistency and quality control of artwork photography and documentation. 
  • Exhibitions and Promotions 
  • Contribute to the delivery of exhibitions and projects. 
  • Support ecommerce via website sales and contribute to digital marketing and social media content. 

Communications and Operational 

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with the Roebourne community, partners, relevant agencies and service providers. 
  • Maintain regular communication with the Manager. 
  • Contribute to Yinjaa-Barni programming and strategic and operational planning. 

Governance 

  • Contribute to reports and acquittals, as required. 
  • Support and practice good governance. 

About You:

Here is a list of some of the desirable qualities we’re looking for: 

  • Tertiary qualifications or equivalent work experience in an arts or related industry is highly desirable 
  • An understanding of the Australian and international art market 
  • Developed aesthetic sense and ability to critically assess art and experience in exhibition co-ordination. 
  • The ability to work in a team and to perform in a high-pressure environment. 
  • Proficient IT skill as well as developed written and oral communication skills. 
  • Valid driver’s license, experience in remote area and the ability to travel. 
  • Capacity to live and work in a remote location 
  • Current police check/clearance or ability to obtain one 

Location:

Roebourne is 40km from the City of Karratha. Karratha has the conveniences of a small city such a Coles, Woolworths, Kmart, Surf Stores, Sporting stores and great selection of Restaurants. You can find out more here on the City of Karratha website. Surrounding coastal towns such as Point Sampson and Dampier offer great boating and fishing. The beautiful Dampier Archipelago Islands are well worth exploring.
