Location: Newman, Western Australia

The Shire is looking for enthusiastic Volunteers to assist in the famous Martumili Art Gallery in the East Pilbara! 

The Shire of East Pilbara is a well-established Local Government Authority in Western Australia, which services the town sites of Newman, Marble Bar, Nullagine and local communities. The Shire is offering an Exciting Opportunity to immerse yourself in incredible Art and Culture.

Guided by the vision of Martumili Artists and under the management of the Coordinator Artwork Production and Coordinator Exhibitions & Gallery, support the operations of Martumili in the Newman Studio and Gallery. 

About the Role:

Tasks you will be required to complete during your volunteer period include but are not limited to; 

Art Production 

  • Support the effective operations of all studio activities (Newman), including: artists support; cleaning; documentation; preparation of lunch service for artists and arts workers; maintain good relationships with Martu artists, arts workers and Martumili staff; documentation of artworks in the SAM database, including artists’ biographical information and relevant artwork information; document studio activities and related Martumili and arts/cultural activities 
  • Maintain regular communication with the Manager and Artwork Production Coordinator 

Exhibitions and Gallery 

  • Support the delivery of Martumili exhibitions and projects. 
  • Assist with the promotion and marketing of Martumili, as required. 

Administration 

  • Other duties as directed by the Manager/Supervisor within the classification level and scope of the position, dependent on Volunteers specific experience and interest. 

Governance 

  • Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with artists, the Wangka Lampa Kujungka (WLK), staff, and stakeholders. 
  • Demonstrate a high level of cultural competency and respect. 
  • Support and practice good governance within a Martu driven organisation. 

About You:

  • Ability to communicate effectively 
  • Ability to work in a team environment 
  • Respect for Martu culture 
  • Good self-management, time management and organisational skills 
  • Experience in an Art organisation setting 
  • C Class driver’s license (manual)

  • 13/10/2025 – 07/11/2025
