OUR FUTURE
ABORIGINAL ARTS WORKER TRAINING PROGRAM
The August 2022 OUR FUTURE Aboriginal Arts Worker Training Program was held on beautiful Miriwoong Country, Kununurra with our hosts Waringarri Arts.
We were welcomed to Country from Ted Carlton and Agnes Armstrong; and we were also fortunate to spend time with Ben Ward and Peggy Griffiths, as well as Dora Griffiths, chair of Waringarri Aboriginal Arts.
Participants spent time in the textile studio, as well as learning about ceramics and slip casting, boab nut carving, packaging and custom box making and spent time with Elder Ted Carlton on country and tour guide Sebastian.
Participants also took part in multiple photography workshops with Kimberley-based photographer Michael Torres from Jalaru Photography.
For this program there were 5 participants: Corban Williams and Robina Clause representing Martumili Artists, Mary Watson representing Juluwarlu Art Group, Gabby Baxter representing Nagula Jarndu and Angelina Karadada representing Kira Kiro Artists.
The OUR FUTURE training program supports Aboriginal arts workers living in regional and remote WA to develop new skills and expand their arts sector knowledge.
The program is proudly supported by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) through the Regional Arts and Cultural Investment Program (RACIP) and is delivered in partnership with North Regional TAFE.
