Nominations Open: Our Future 2026

Key dates

  • Applications closed: 5pm AWST, Monday 11 May 2026
  • Successful applicants notified: Wednesday 3 June 2026 
  • Regional course dates (Martumili Artists, Parnpajinya/Newman): 20 – 24 July 2026 (with travel days on either side) 
  • Metro course dates (Boorloo/Perth): 23 November – 2 December 2026 (with travel days on either side)

  • Martumili Artists, Parnpajinya (Newman) 
  • Boorloo (Perth) (NM TAFE and multiple cultural institutions) 

Program info

The program will include:

  • Practical onsite training and industry-based knowledge sharing and learning at Martumili Artists
  • Behind-the-scenes tours, demonstrations and workshops at WA Museum Boola Bardip, Art Gallery of WA and other galleries and collections 
  • Tailored tutorials, written and practical coursework for the completion of TAFE units towards a Certificate II in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Cultural Arts at both program locations
  • Networking and creative industry development 

AACHWA will provide:

  • All training and enrolment costs
  • Travel, accommodation and meals for the duration of the program
  • Literacy and numeracy support (if required) throughout the program
  • Any required safety equipment (such as shoes, PPE etc.)

Art centres are encouraged to:

  • Pay their selected participants their standard wage across the travel and course days

Application details

How to apply

Please note limited places are available. Unfortunately, we are not able to accept every nomination.

  • Each art centre* can nominate up to 2 candidates
  • Please complete 1 application form per nominee
  • Email at least 1 hi-res photo (min. 1MB) of the nominee to liz@aachwa.com.au. The photo will be used for promotional purposes.
  • The application form must be completed by both the art centre manager or studio coordinator and the nominee

*All WA art centres are welcome to nominate arts workers, however, preference will be given to AACHWA members.

Selection criteria

To be eligible for the training program, participants need to:

  • Identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
  • Be currently working in a WA Aboriginal art centre
  • Have worked in an art centre or in an arts-related field for at least 6 months  
  • Have worked in developing exhibitions or curating, art installation and/or studio assistance
  • Attend the program in Newman for 5 days and Perth for 10 days (with travel days on either side)
  • Participate in pre- and post-course information and evaluation sessions online with AACHWA
