Aboriginal Art Centre Forum

Designed for art centre staff, art centre board directors and art centre artists, the OUR BUSINESS: Aboriginal Art Centre Forum is tailored to meet the professional development needs of WA Aboriginal art centres; provide governance training for effective business management; strengthen regional partnerships and provide networking and market access opportunities.

Held in Ieramugadu (Roebourne), 26 – 29 October 2021, AACHWA’s annual OUR BUSINESS Forum was held across two venues – the Ngurin Cultural Centre and Ganalili Centre. Attendance was strong with 100 artists and arts workers welcomed from all over the state for four days of capacity building, learning and knowledge sharing.

DAY ONE (26 OCTOBER)

Attendees were welcomed to Roebourne with presentations and art centre tours by Wangaba Roebourne Art Group, Yinjaa Barni Art, Cheeditha Art Group and Juluwarlu Art Group.  Day one also included a smoking ceremony & tour courtesy of the Ganalili Centre and a rock art tour at the Murujuga National Park.

DAYS TWO AND THREE (27 and 28 OCTOBER)

Hosted across two main street venues, the Ganalili Centre and Ngurin Centre, attendees participated in information sessions and workshops from Copyright Agency, Indigenous Art Code, ArtsLaw, Stories Art Money (SAM) and on topics including arts funding (IVAIS, RAWA and DLGSC) and Mental Health and Governance (Evolve Training). There was an opportunity for sector feedback with the Productivity Commission Inquiry, The Darwin Art Fair’s Indigenous Fashion Project, and AACHWA’s Our Country Moves: WA Aboriginal Art Project development and funding submissions. The program also included, the Thaanggangarli-yarndu Histories and Heroes exhibition opening at the Ganalili Centre, hosted by Juluwarlu Art Group.

DAY FOUR (29 OCTOBER)

Symposium – Peer to peer learning took shape with presentations and panel discussions including: Murujuga Rangers rock art and caring for Country, Wangaba Roebourne Art Group Ngarluma presentation, AACHWA Product Development Project, Art Centre Product Showcase, Next Generation Creatives, Tracks We Share: New Perspectives on art of the Pilbara and OUR FUTURE Aboriginal Arts Worker Training Program presentation.

Attended by more than 100 artists and art workers from 30 different arts centres and arts organisations

  • 67 Presentations and workshops
  • 78 commercial flights taken for people to attend and get home again!   
  • 640 catered meals provided
  • 203 nights of booked accommodation
  • More than 80,000 kilometres travelled
